Our basecamp is located about an hour and twenty minutes from Jackson. We are based in the Bridger Teton National Forest, about five minutes from the South Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. We’re right between Yellowstone and Grand Teton, which makes it easy to access both parks while staying in a more quiet, backcountry setting.
There is a gas station and convenience store at Flagg Ranch about four minutes by car from our camp. Colter Bay is 30 minutes from us.
We’ll send detailed directions and arrival info ahead of your trip, and you’re always welcome to give us a call if you have questions getting here.

Bears do live in this area, but it’s not something you need to be worried about. Our camp is set up with bear safety in mind, and our crew is trained and experienced in operating in bear country. We handle all food storage properly and keep a clean camp, which is the biggest factor in preventing issues.
It is extremely rare to see a bear near our camp, and when you’re out riding or exploring, your guide will walk you through what to do to stay safe. We’ll also explain all bear safety protocols when you arrive so you feel comfortable and prepared.
We have bear spray on site that can be borrowed by our guests during their stay.

Guest Testimonials
“Wow! Worth every penny. We only planned to stay one night but wish we did 2–3. Wilderness Trails is family owned, rural, and one of a kind — we felt like a family on the prairie and got to eat with the wranglers and chef, which made it feel even more special. My kids had so much fun and wanted to “live there” — we just wish we stayed longer.”
— Michele C., 2025“Wilderness Trails runs a fantastic operation. I'm an active equestrian with many years of experience and was looking for something other than the typical nose-to-tail tourist rides. I found Wilderness Trails via another social media site's equestrian sub and was very glad I did! This is the outfitter I will absolutely return to on my next trip to Teton.”
— Laurel R., 2025“My friends and I were in town for a wedding when we stumbled across Wilderness Trails and thank God we did because it was the best way we could’ve wrapped up our really special trip to Jackson. Everything was perfect, everyone felt like family, the horses were beautiful and visibly well kept and well loved, tents were cozy, the food was fantastic, and a huge plus were all the pups running around. We loved meeting all of yall, can’t wait to come back again”
