BIG GAME HUNTING
WITH WILDERNESS TRAILS OUTFITTERS
A 60+ Year Backcountry Legacy
Join us for a big game hunt in some of the most remote country in the lower 48, located in the Bridger Teton National Forest between Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. We have unparalleled access to hunt elk in unit 71 and deer in unit 148 (region L) in the Teton Wilderness area and the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway. Arrive to a drive in basecamp that offers a high level of comfort, then ride out into rugged, hard to reach terrain where pressure is low and animals have the chance to reach maturity.
…
With over 60 years of experience in this area, our guides and stock know how to navigate the terrain, locate animals, and handle pack outs efficiently. Much of our hunt area lies within federally designated wilderness, where non resident hunters are required to hunt with a licensed outfitter.
We take care of the logistics so you can focus on the hunt, and once your animal is down, our team handles the pack out.
High quality, fair-chase, 100% public land hunts.

In unit 71, archery elk hunts run September 1st through September 19th. Rifle elk hunts run September 20 through October 31. Our area provides excellent opportunities in both seasons.
Around 10,000 elk comprise the Jackson elk herd. Our camp lies in the heart of their range. Good numbers of resident elk are present through summer and the fall breeding season. Due to the lack of pressure, elk tend to be very vocal during the rut.
After the first significant snowfalls, large numbers of migrant animals begin streaming through from summer ranges in Yellowstone, en route to winter range on the National Elk Refuge and southern Jackson Hole.
-
Archery deer season is September 1st through September 14th. Rifle season runs September 15th to October 25th, 3 weeks longer than most other units in the Jackson area.
Both whitetail, and mule deer are present. Both can be harvested, but trophy potential is higher with mule deer. Population densities are somewhat lower than other units in the Jackson area, but mature bucks make up a larger percentage of the deer. Deer hunting here requires time spent scouting to know where the animals are.
Come hunt with us and you will enjoy the benefit of our preseason legwork, getting you to where the action is. Our job is to do everything we can for you to have opportunities at the deer you're looking for. Is chasing big bucks in Yellowstone country on your bucket list? Then look no further.

While in camp, you can expect comfortable wall tents with sheeted beds, heaters, and wash stations. In the morning, the camp cook will have hot meals and coffee before departure.
They will also prepare and send you with a solid lunch to enjoy out in the field. After a full day on the mountain, a hot dinner will be ready for you when you get back into camp.
To minimize hunting pressure and maximize our guests’ experience, we host only a limited number of hunters per season. This allows us to focus on each hunter, ensuring that their experience is the hunt of a lifetime.

Our basecamp is located about an hour and twenty minutes from Jackson. We are based in the Bridger Teton National Forest, about five minutes from the South Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. We’re right between Yellowstone and Grand Teton, which makes it easy to access both parks while staying in a more quiet, backcountry setting.
There is a gas station and convenience store at Flagg Ranch about four minutes by car from our camp. Colter Bay is 30 minutes from us.
We’ll send detailed directions and arrival info ahead of your trip, and you’re always welcome to give us a call if you have questions getting here.

Our riding age is 7 and up, but younger kids are very welcome at basecamp.
We have plenty for them to enjoy including a western style cookout and time around camp, and we can organize a meet and greet with the horses if you would like. We also offer a family rate for families with kids too young to ride.
We’re a family run operation, so camp has a relaxed, welcoming feel and kids have a great time visiting.

Bears do live in this area, but it’s not something you need to be worried about. Our camp is set up with bear safety in mind, and our crew is trained and experienced in operating in bear country. We handle all food storage properly and keep a clean camp, which is the biggest factor in preventing issues.
It is extremely rare to see a bear near our camp, and when you’re out riding or exploring, your guide will walk you through what to do to stay safe. We’ll also explain all bear safety protocols when you arrive so you feel comfortable and prepared.
We have bear spray on site that can be borrowed by our guests during their stay.
