Itinerary

July 12th - July 15th, 2027

Within the itinerary, there is room for each father and son pair to engage with the experience in the way that feels most meaningful to them. Expect to spend time fly fishing, horseback riding, and learning from seasoned packers and guides who have spent years in the Yellowstone backcountry.

Our goal is to create an environment where fathers and sons have space to connect naturally, whether that happens while fishing a quiet stretch of river, riding horseback through the mountains, or sitting around the fire after dinner. The experience is designed to feel personal, relaxed, and flexible, with time spent both one on one and alongside a very small group of other fathers and sons sharing the same experience.

About Wilderness Trails

Wilderness Trails Outfitters is family run and has been guiding guests into the heart of the Yellowstone backcountry for over 70 years. Based along the quiet meadows of Sheffield Creek, our camp is surrounded by pristine forests, mountain ridges, and wide open skies. For generations, fathers and sons have worked alongside each other here, learning from one another through time spent outdoors, caring for stock, traveling through the mountains, and sharing in the traditions that have shaped this outfit since the beginning.

Our staff are seasoned professionals who know the terrain intimately, ensuring not only safety on the trail but also a deep connection to the land and horses that make this journey possible.

Guest Testimonials

“I highly recommend Wilderness Trails for horseback riding in Yellowstone. I did a full day trail ride with them. Everyone there was friendly, welcoming, and competent. They matched me with a horse and a trail based on my very limited riding experience. Much more personal than the large tourist group rides I’ve done in the past. Because we were a smaller group, and because we got very lucky, we were able to spot some of the most incredible wildlife near our lunch picnic. It was a great way to experience Yellowstone away from the crowds and cars. I would definitely go back, and recommend them to everyone looking for a unique experience

“Horseback camping in Yellowstone was a bucket list trip, and it exceeded my expectations! The crew were the nicest, hard working people I have ever met in the tour service industry. The food was so phenomenal I had to skip lunch to reduce how much weight I gained. The nature of Yellowstone is wonderful!
I highly recommend Wilderness Trails outfitters. They are great people!

“Every aspect was a 5 star experience. The team they have put together makes you feel like family immediately and offers a great riding experience for people of any experience level. Once you return to camp the chef prepares an incredible meal for you and you can relax around a fire making new friends with the staff. The sleeping accommodations were extremely comfortable and the staff makes sure you want/need for nothing. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a better way to experience the Grand Teton NP area than just driving around.
